Systematic and Other Reviews

Reviews - what and why?

Review articles can be extremely valuable as they describe the current state of knowledge on a topic. They summarise information for readers, often providing clarity and valuable insights into a topic; and are a valuable resource in evidence-based practice.

Reviews are done for many reasons including but not limited to:

  • To identify gaps in the literature
  • As preparation for further research or grant applications
  • To identify and synthesise all the scholarly research on a particular topic

This guide provides an overview of the different types of reviews to assist in the selection of the appropriate review type, guide you through the steps of the more complex review types and advise on the tools available to streamline the process.
