Critical appraisal skills and tools allow you to confidently assess published papers' trustworthiness, value and relevance. Some tools that will help you to critically appraise scholarly literature are listed below:
SPSS and SAS
HSS coordinates a whole of Health licence purchase for SPSS and for SAS.
To request access, you will need to complete a HFN-070 form providing HSS with cost centre approval. You can access this form on the HSS ICT Support page (link below) under purchasing and forms. You can also find a guide to completing the form in the same location.
Open-source applications
There are also some open-source statistical applications (see below) that are trusted and approved by HSS. Installation of these applications can be requested by logging an IT request through the ICT Service Portal.
Choosing a statistical test
Statoolio is a tool to assist researchers identify the most appropriate statistical test for their research and/or quality improvement projects. Developed by the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) at Graylands Hospital, it is based on a decision tree consisting of 16 questions. After guiding the user to the appropriate statistical test, Statoolio then provides educational content for each test including examples, datasets, links to video tutorials etc.
