EndNote: Information and User Guide

EndNote embeds code into your Word document. Your Word document must be converted to plain text before submitting for publication or assessment.  This plain copy of your Word document will retain all the citations and the bibliography. However, it will no longer be connected to your EndNote library or have code embedded within it.

  • Save your document in Word as usual File > Save
  • In the Word EndNote 21 tab select the Convert Citations and Bibliography drop-down menu
  • Select Convert to Plain Text

  • A window will pop up, telling you that a new plain text version of your document will be created, select OK.
  • Ensure you save the copy with a different name, so you know it is the plain text version.

Note: you can make any editing changes to any citation in this new plain text document. It is not connected to your EndNote library.
