The EndNote Cite While You Write (CWYW) function can be used to quickly and easily add citations to a document (e.g. Microsoft Word) on both a PC and Mac. The CWYW function will also generate your bibliography/reference list in the referencing style of your choice.
When EndNote is installed, it will automatically add an EndNote toolbar to your desktop Word program. If you are using Word Online you will need to link your EndNote Web account with EndNote 2025, please see CWYW and Word Online below for more information on using EndNote 2025 with Word Online.
To access the EndNote toolbar in Word, click on the EndNote 2025 tab.
If the ribbon only displays EndNote (with no 2025 after it):
The Cite While You Write (CWYW) function is also available for Word Online (MS 365) for users who have EndNote 21 or later.
CWYW requires an EndNote Web account activated with EndNote 21 or later. If you have not registered for an online account, the instructions here will guide you.
If the CWYW plug in does not automatically appear when you link your EndNote Web account you will need to request access to the user group via an eHFN-030 form:
"Please add me to the "EUC-EndNote-Online-Users" group as I require use of the Cite While You Write (CWYW) function for Word Online (MS 365). "
