No, EndNote is not designed for compatibility with remote drives or cloud storage e.g. USB drive, Dropbox. For further guidance on how to save your library see Storing your EndNote Library.
It is recommended to have only one EndNote library and to use groups to manage the references within your library. You can only sync one library at a time with EndNote online, and only use one library at a time with Word. Check out Creating an EndNote Library for further guidance.
If you have received an EndNote library via email, this will most likely be a compressed copy of an EndNote library. If you do not already have your own EndNote library, you may open this library, and (from the File tab) select save a copy of this library. Make sure you follow the advice on storing your library here.
If you already have an EndNote Library, you will need to import the new references into your existing library. To do this open the new library and select all the references. From the References tab, go to Copy References To, and Choose Library. This will open up file explorer where you can find your existing library and choose it as the save location.
You can access your EndNote library anywhere if you sync your library with EndNote Online. Follow the steps in our guide to set up your account and sync your library.
Yes! You can add references from a university database to the WA Health licenced EndNote software. Note, however, that if you use EndNote Click to access full-text with your university, this is incompatible with LibKey which is used by the library, and may generate error messages when trying to follow links in EndNote. If this happens try disabling the EndNote Click plugin.
If you must rename your EndNote library you will have to change the name of both components (.enl & .data) at the same time. To do this highlight both components, right click and select rename.
If you have to move your library, both components must be moved at the same time. Again, you will highlight both components and drag, or cut and paste them, to the new location. For more about the different EndNote library components see Getting started - EndNote.
Yes! EndNote has a Find Full Text function. To use this function within EndNote you will first need to set some preferences. See Setting up the Find Full Text function for a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
You will need to export your references from EndNote as an XML file or RIS text format. See the Import references to Covidence link on the Covidence guide step-by-step instructions.
This usually happens if you also have the EndNote Click plugin installed on your browser. Try disabling the EndNote Click plugin. The steps for this will differ depending on the browser you are using. For instructions on your specific browser, search disable extensions on Google and select your browser from the tabbed options at the top of the page.
You cannot edit the references from within a Word document. The data for the references in your Word document is extracted from EndNote, so the information must be edited in EndNote. See Inserting references into a Word document for instructions on how to do this.
If you are ready to submit your document for publishing, or you need to make manual edits you will need to convert your document to plain text. For step-by-step instructions on how to do this see publishing your paper.
This could be happening for a couple of reasons. Firstly, check that you have selected the correct referencing style in EndNote, you will be able to check this is both your EndNote Library and in the EndNote tab in Word.
If the referencing style is correct, you will need to review your references in EndNote. If you have manually input the reference, you may have incorrectly entered data, missed a field etc. See our guide to manually creating references.
PubMed references do not download with a URL. To create a link to the PubMed reference insert the below search string in front of the accession number.
Your reference should look like this: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?otool=iaufhhslib&term=30089228
For more information on PubMed URLs and importing references from other databases see Importing references from Library databases.
